Water Life Introduction

A comic featuring a stylized map of New York City, a busy crosswalk scene with a sailboat in the background, the Verazano Narrows Bridge, the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, and East River Ferry boat, a man pulling a bluefish out of the water, and a while tale with the financial district in the background.

Here in New York it is easy to take a subway everywhere, popping up all over town with buildings all around, and live here for years without ever seeing the water. That is really why It is so easy to forget that, if you aren't in the Bronx or Marble Hill, but you are in New York City, then you are on an island. The Bronx even has lots of islands and Marble Hill was briefly an island. This water has so much to do with our history and the ecosystem that it is almost strange how separated we seem from it now. For both long time New Yorkers and tourists I always recommend getting out on the water when you want to connect with this city, whether it's by paddling or sailing recreationaly or just taking a ferry rather than a train.
